The Evolution

If you know me, you know that I have always had a problem with the state of education in our industry. We teach certifications.  We teach theory. We teach research. But we forget to teach the one thing that makes our jobs so special.

We forget to teach how to be a human.

And for the record, we are actually terrible at teaching Sports Science. Students leave as robots coding in R, instead of data scientists who understand the beauty, pattern, nuance, and context behind what it really means to capture human performance data. We forget emotional intelligence. We forget reading a room. We forget discipline, accountability, and passion. We teach smallest worthwhile change. We teach scientific writing. We don’t teach adaptability. We don’t teach communication. We certainly don’t teach compassion.

Social Media doesn’t help. We’ve become images. Curated identities. Devoid of transparency, uncertainty, willingness for discourse. It’s our way. Our exercises. Our results. I’ve always said that I wanted to change the landscape. Make my own educational platform. Give a massive middle finger to the NSCA. Well, what I will not let myself be is someone who just talks, just more smoke & mirrors, someone who is just adding more words.

THE EVOLUTION was made to be the antithesis to the current state of Sports Performance education. The real coach education. Written by the real voices in this industry. This platform was made to feature the elite HUMANS. The ones who love what they do so much that you can’t help but elevate around them. The ones who pursue greatness on a level some of us could only dream about. The ones who work with passion, excellence, accountability, integrity, and love for their athletes and what they get to wake up and do every single day. And they all know it, but I wouldn’t be the coach that I am today without them. This is to celebrate them.

So I asked them to write about what makes them special. How they think. What makes them get out of bed. I don’t want them to write about their jobs or their protocols. I want them to write about what makes them who they are. Admittedly, I was going to kick this project off with my old ‘The Female Strength Coach is a Myth’ article from 2023, but their entries inspired me so much that I had to write one of my own.
